Sussex Undergraduate Research Office

The Sussex Undergraduate Research Office (SURO) is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Sussex's pioneering undergraduate research scheme. We aim to increase research opportunities for undergraduate research within the university, to maximise the value of undergraduate research undertaken at Sussex, and to enhance the recognition and value of undergraduate research at a wider, national level.

The 2023 Junior Research Associate Scheme opened on 13 February, with applications closing at 17.00 on Monday 27 March.

If you missed the launch event, watch the recording to find out about the scheme, how to apply, and hear from previous JRA students and supervisors on the benefits of taking part. Read about the 2022 poster exhibition to see some of the brilliant research conducted by last year's JRAs.

These webpages contain everything you need to know about becoming a JRA, and you can also read about other students’ experiences on the external site.

We want the JRA scheme to benefit all students who are enthusiastic about a future in research, and who will carry out a successful research project with merit. We particularly want to make it accessible to students who might not otherwise be exposed to research, or consider a research career.

If you've faced barriers or you're from an underrepresented student group, the optional Widening Participation Statement allows you to detail any challenges you have overcome. See the FAQs for further details.
