Creative Practice: Producing and Curating (P4039)

Spring teaching

On this module you will look at aspects of production and consider creative media forms in relation to contemporary themes, intended message and interdisciplinary context.

You’ll explore technology in relation to evolving creative practices as well as exhibition/distribution. You’ll consider selection in relation to intention, audience and modes of consumption – from screenings, to installations, happenings and mobile digital devices/platforms.

Lectures will be complemented by seminars in, where you’ll discuss with a wider scope and in-depth focus. You’ll look at specific examples of professional exhibition in a range of disciplines, such as:

  • art and design
  • commercial portfolio
  • gallery
  • museums
  • urban environment.

You will undertake weekly exercises, employing different strategies for producing work with a variety of methods. You’ll explore a range of curated outputs, recording and reflecting on them weekly in the log.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 17 hours of contact time and about 133 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
