Social Justice, Leadership & Organising: Practice (SL002)

Spring teaching

This module, which serves as a follow up to the ‘Social Justice, Leadership & Organising: Theory’ module, offers a unique experience from other university courses. You are placed within a local community organisation and will complete a placement with them for a minimum of 30 hours across the semester. To ensure that placements are organised to meet an identified community need, you and the partner organisations have access to ongoing support from the University and Citizens UK. You are asked to continually reflect on your understanding of and engagement with the community organisation, developing insights into what ‘social justice’, ‘leadership’ and ‘community’ mean within the context of your placement.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 52 hours of contact time and about 98 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to COVID-19, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
